Founded by Dr. Risa Potters, a recognized expert in bone health, safe movement, and holistic nutrition, The Smart of Living delivers high-touch, personalized health coaching programs designed to strengthen foundational health systems and support longevity, resilience, and quality of life.

Since our bones function as the structural integrity of our bodies, we start by looking at bone health along with other complexities or diagnoses a client may be experiencing. All of these things impact one another so our priority is to consider the whole person, and create a safe yet effective support plan to address concerns and maximize results. Often we find that making a positive change in nutrition or exercise, for example, has positive effects on other conditions and clients not only improve bone health but experience improvements in other areas and feel generally less pain, less inflammation, increased strength flexibility, balance and more.

Our approach integrates Smart Functional Medicine principles with lifestyle science to provide practical, sustainable strategies that complement each client’s primary medical care. We are here for support between visits and take the time to explain, interpret, understand and truly get to know each of our clients on an individual level.

Because every client is unique, we create individualized programs centered on the most important biological and lifestyle drivers of health. Each plan has structured goals and objectives, and purposely leaves space to allow the work to evolve naturally with a client’s goals, needs, progress and life stage.

Our Foundational Coaching Framework

While each coaching program is highly personalized for the individual, the framework and science behind our programs is constant. Each program takes into account core lifestyle and functional health principles that serve as the foundation for long-term metabolic health, bone strength, physical mobility, longevity and independence.

#1. Nutrition & Micronutrients:

We guide clients through personalized nutrition strategies that support micronutrient balance, gut microbiome health, inflammation regulation, metabolic function, and tissue integrity.

Our coaching prioritizes nutrient-dense “real” foods, individualized nutrition assessments and supplementation recommendations if needed to promote bone health and overall well-being.

#2. Movement, Posture & Resilience:

We provide functional movement coaching focused on balance, alignment, spinal health, musculoskeletal strength, and fall risk reduction.

These principles support coordination between the nervous system, musculoskeletal system, and cardiovascular function.

All of our exercise and movement incorporates BONE SAFE exercises based on updated science to help each client safely build bone at an appropriate pace.

#3. Sleep, Mindset & Happiness

We address sleep quality, circadian rhythm alignment, stress physiology, breathing practices, and recovery habits that influence hormone balance, immune resilience, cognitive performance, and tissue repair.
